THEME 1: Glorification of War
Theme Context
This theme features pieces that use brighter-sounding music. They were often played to soldiers as they were travelling between destinations to increase perseverance and promote heroism in their participation with the war. Sounds were very uplifting, and there was often the use of a choir to emulate nationwide support and community. Lyrics were friendly and welcoming in order to appeal to the masses, and were sometimes used to strengthen relations between the countries within the alliances. Common themes include the romanticization of enlistment, welcoming refrains to the military, and justification of war acts.
